About the event
The 1st International Symposium on Artemisia will take place in Arusha, Tanzania, from October 8-10, 2025.
Registration for the symposium can be completed online through our Registration page. A limited number of grants will be available to support attendees from low-income countries.
The registration fee covers access to symposium sessions, meals, and networking opportunities, including a gala dinner.

In October, Arusha enjoys mild, pleasant weather. Temperatures typically range from 16°C to 29°C (61°F to 84°F), with clear skies and little rain, as it falls within the dry season. This makes it perfect for both indoor conference sessions and outdoor activities such as safari tours. Visitors should bring light clothing for the day and a jacket for cooler evenings.
One international airport serves Arusha: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), located 37 miles east of the city. Ensure you apply for a visa, if required, via the Tanzania Immigration Services website.
Arusha is a popular gateway to national parks like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, offering a tropical climate. The average temperature in October is between 16°C and 29°C. The time zone is GMT+3, and electricity uses Type G plugs (UK-style) with a standard voltage of 230V.

About Arusha and Tanzania
Kiswahili and English are Tanzania’s official languages. English is widely spoken, especially in hotels and restaurants.
The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the official currency, but USD is also accepted in many tourist areas. It’s recommended to carry both cash and cards, as some places may only accept cash.
Arusha is generally safe, but as anywhere travelers should take basic precautions such as avoiding displaying valuables, staying alert in crowded areas, and not walking alone at night in remote places.
Tipping is not mandatory in restaurants.Except in the safari industry where it has become a common and appreciated gesture. Drivers and camp staff will be grateful for your generosity. A typical tip is around 10% of the service cost, though you can adjust this based on the level of service and your experience.
Visas Apply for e-visas through visa. immigration.go.tz. An Ordinary Visa (single entry) is usually issued for maximum 90 days. Current ruling says that US citizens must apply for a multipleentry visa even for a short holiday.
Prepaid SIM starter packs are most easily purchased on arrival at the airport, where English-speaking staff can upload for you. Vodacom, Airtel and Tigo all operate throughout the country and top-ups are available in most towns.
